Hey there,
Thanks for coming to the Community.
All members of a Duo/Family plan are using their own Spotify accounts.
If the plan owner cancels the subscription, all members of the plan will revert back to Free and their offline music will be removed from their device(s).
If the members who were part of a Duo/Family plan subscribe to Premium again, or join another plan, they'll be able to download their music again for offline listening.
Please note that this doesn't affect playlists, saved music etc., as those features are available to users on the Free plan as well.
Hope this clears things up 🙂
One question, if a member of the duo plan leaves said subscription does the main account owner get affected by this change??
Hey @Silverly007,
No, of course not, since it's a separate account. 🙂
My boyfriend and I just broke up. We were together a year and a half. This was suddenly and I am still grieving. I noticed that I am on his Duo account. If I cancel the subscription (it also gives me the option) then will he also have to create a new premium subscription and will have the free one? Or does this turn his into an individual subscription? Thank you.
Hey @09242001,
Sorry to hear about your situation.
If you cancel/leave, it will not affect his subscription at all, it'll continue to be Premium Duo.
Hello I have a question similar … I own my duo account and my ex husband is on it , I have cancelled the duo and I know he will be kicked off of the account after the date I was given. But in the meantime , if I block him on Spotify does he also lose access to my account right now?
Hey @someone27,
Thanks for your reply here.
In this case, we'd like to add some insights. Remember that the accounts that make part of a Duo plan are independent of one another. Sharing the plan doesn't mean that you share the same account, but rather that you share the subscription.
That being said, on one hand, remember that you can remove the member of a Duo plan whenever you want. You can do it by following these steps. That way, you don't have to wait until your next billing date for the member to be removed from the plan.
On the other hand, by blocking someone, you prevent them from viewing your profile, which includes the content of your playlists. To block a user within the app, you need to go to the user's profile you'd like to block. There, next to the follow/following button, select the three-dot menu> Block. This is possible from both the desktop app and the mobile app. You can see a list of blocked users on the mobile app. To check it, you need to head to Settings and privacy> Privacy & social> Blocked users.
Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.
