Is switching to Apple Music really the only way to change my avatar?

I signed up for Spotify using Facebook many years ago. Like many others, I've since deactivated my Facebook account. Now, my username in Spotify is a bunch of random numbers and I can't change my avatar.

Is there a way to change this or should I just switch to Apple Music?

If your account was initially created through Facebook, please check out this support page under "Need Help?" and then "Not Seeing The Option To Remove ?".

My further question is my original question. Is there any way for me to change my avatar on Spotify?

The link you provided seems to suggest there is not. Is there a reason for this? Technical limitation? Some kind of deal with Facebook?

Just jumping in here to confirm that even with a Facebook created account you should be able to upload a new profile picture by following the steps on the support page linked by @OneByBoo.

If you don't see the changes right away, try restarting the app as well as logging out and back in.
