Listening at home and on the road

I live in Santa Barbra CA, but commute to Los Angeles CA on a daily basis. My question is why is it when I'm in my car, listening to my Spotify, and then suddenly funny girlfriend opens up Spotify on her phone or on our computer, it stops playing in my car. Isn't that the whole point of the family account? Is there a way to keep this account but also not get kicked off on one device when ever someone else logs on and starts playing music on another device ??

The reason why it stops means you are both logged into the same account.

4 years later, and this hasn't been addressed! I have a Tesla, and the built in Spotify doesn't make it easy to switch accounts. So whenever my wife drives my car, my music stops playing. I would gladly pay the extra for family if that would fix the problem. But sadly I'm forced to use YouTube music if my wife is driving cause switching accounts all the time is FRUSTRATING!

I want ONE account with multiple users, because my HOME is one home, and my car is one car and my playlists are shared with the whole family. This whole thing about one person to one account is just a horrible user experience.
