Locked out because I am in another country for the summer.

Locked out because I am in another country for the summer.

Please help... I first registered for Spotify last year while in France. I am back there for the summer but all of the sudden today I am blocked from using the free Spotify service because "my location does not match my profile" (error 408)..... even though when it was CREATED I was in France, too.

 

Is this because the "billing" info I have is based in the US?

I am unable to edit my country in my profile.... it is locked as the US.

So therefore, I am completely locked out.

Fix this please. I ONLY use Spotify when I am abroad!!

 

(And don't tell me to just upgrade, because I don't have the money for that.)

Sorry, going to have to tell you what you don't want to hear. Listening abroad is only available on Unlimited or Premium subscriptions (apart from an initial 14 day trial period on the Free account level).

If you have a French payment card you can use that to update your payment details and then switch your country to France - you don't have to actually upgrade or pay, just have a french card logged in order to tag your country as France. You won't then be able to listen in the US, but if you only use Spotify when abroad anyway no problem.

If you ever did want to use it in the US then create a second account for that country - share your playlists from the first account and you can subscribe to them from the other.

hmm. creating a second account may indeed work. I'd rather not attach a card if I don't intend to use it...

 

I just wonder if it is the simple fact that, stupidly, I went into my profile one day and switched my profile country to US....

 

really quite lame.

I am a premium spotify user in the UK, and am in North America for the summer. I have been using spotify reliably for the past month, and how I am locked out.  As I am already a premium user, why am I having this issue?

Premium users don't have that problem. I would suggest checking your subscription status here:

Also, check your receipts to see when was your last payment:
