Non-monthly rate plans?

Non-monthly rate plans?

I'm an adult user who deliberately avoids monthly payments/fees - both on principal and to avoid fiscal bloat.
Particularly for a service with a small fee, I'm very reluctant to sign up for any service resulting in a monthly charge, and also fear this recurrance is managed externally (meaning, not through my banking system).

With Sirius, I purchased a lifetime subscription, which allowed me to pay entirely up front, and over the long run, there will be a horizon beyond which I will ultimately save money for having done that.  Besides the large initial payment, there are zero monthly payments.

With several other services, I pay annually (or bi-annually), which in exchange for paying up front generally also yields a discount (like a magazine subscription) and turns this more into an accountable and deliberate "purchase", as opposed to a monthly recurring fee.

Do either of these options exist for Spotify?
I've just added bluetooth integration and a dock in my commute vehicle, so there's a possibility that I could use this as opposed to Pandora, having the benefit of accessing my playlists.  I'm not sure occasional use during a 15 minute commute would truly justify a premium service upgrade, but may consider it if options are available.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is an option for one year. However, it's not discounted in any way (9.99 per month, 119.88 per year) so the only thing you're really doing is committing yourself to Spotify for an entire year.

I would avoid this option, but if you really hate monthly charges, this is an option for you.

If spotify sell gift cards in your region you could buy those as and when you want a subscription and apply the codes to your own account

You can also buy fixed length ecards from the Spotify website which you can then credit to your own account if you like. You can buy 1/3/6/12 months at any time 😉

Yes, that's very interesting... it makes me question the business model.

Generally there's some give/take, it's recognition that the user is taking on additional risk and financial committment (and providing the service provider additional advantage) by paying up front, and accordingly offsetting that with a correspondingly respectful discount when paying in advance.

Effectively, Spotify is discouraging people from committing to their service for extended lengths of time, which doesn't make business sense to me.  Very questionable, and certainly would make me also hesitate.

One option is to simply NOT invest in the premium service - I was on the fence, as would be anyone who was currently not a subscriber, I wouldn't see the business sense in discouraging people from becoming subscribers.
I'll definitely take this offline to think about it for a while, play with Spotify for a while, I'm skeptical that this will prove to be something I can't live without on mobile, I suppose that sense is augmented by a little spot of initial disappointment.

Thanks.
