Hello! I'm a music producer and i make beats for artists to rap on.
I want to open an artist profile in order to claim the royalties of all songs uploaded with one of my beats. Is there any way that i can do it for free?
I know that i can open an account using distrokid and company, but i don't really need to upload songs on the platform, i only need to claim the royalties.
If distrokid is the only way that i have to open an artist profile, is it possible to upload a random beat, wait for my profile to pop up and then delete that beat? I only want the profile, no songs uploaded.
Thank you for reading this and sorry for my messy english grammar!
Hey @DopeGreed0, thanks for reaching out to the Community!
There is a great FAQ on getting started with Spotify for Artists here.
If the FAQ's don't help, you can get in touch with the Spotify for Artists team here. Explain what you need help with in more detail, and they'll get back to you and do their best to help.
Have a nice day!
The FAQ doesn't help at all 😞 But thank you anyway 🙂
Hey man!
I am an artist myself and I currently use Tunecore (https://www.tunecore.com/). I used to use CDbaby (https://cdbaby.com/)
- Tunecore charges a yearly fee but does not take any royalties
- CDbaby charges no monthly fee but takes 9% of royalties
- if you want 'free', go with CDBaby!
There are a ton of other ones out there as well. See this website for a good review list (https://www.amuse.io/content/the-best-music-distribution-services)
Royalties can be quite complex across the different streaming services, regions, distributors etc. If you want a good resource to help you navigate all of it, call your PRO (performance rights organization) (i.e. SOCAN if you're in Canada). In my experience, they are very helpful!
Hope this helps!
Michael
