Payment Change

I had recently changed debit cards and my payment did not go through during its original day it is normally billed.  This is what i wanted for the time being until i could afford it again. However, the payment went through anyways and updated my new debit card information without my knowledge and without me doing it? I did not change the payment and neither did anyone else because i am the only user of this account. Now i was charged an overdraft fee through my bank. My question is, how was the payment information automatically updated?
