Yes! You can subscribe to Spotify premium via iTunes 🙂

Just subscribe to Spotify premium via the Spotify app on an iOS device and you will subscribe via iTunes.

Note: iTunes subscriptions cost more ($9.99 vs $12.99) when compared to directly subscribing via Spotify

Question: my premium says it's been paused and I've added an iTunes card but it still hasn't gone through is there something else I should be doing

Same here and I've got no response from Spotify or iTunes yet.
