Pissed at Spotify for MAKING me use Facebook

Solved!

Pissed at Spotify for MAKING me use Facebook

I've always sung the praises of Spotify — have been a fan/premium subcriber for many years — but this is the first time I've felt truly burned by the company:

I somehow got logged out of my Spotify account on my phone, and now every time I try to sign back in, it reactivates my Facebook account. My dormant, deactivated Facebook account that I haven't touched in years because I want nothing to do with Facebook.

From what I've determined, my only option is to accept that Spotify is *REQUIRING* me to use its Bully Partner Company, or I can ... start a new Spotify account from scratch. After building up my current account for over five years with all my settings, tastes, and playlists.

Does anyone know away around this nonsense? I'm truly angry that I'm being forced to use Facebook against my will. This is the first time I've seen something from Spotify that feels sleazy and kind of ... insidious?

Hey @helpnowplease

You don't need to have Facebook to use Spotify. You should create a new account with a different email address from the one you used for Facebook. That will give you a Spotify username, so you won't have to rely on any Facebook account.

Once you have this new account, fill out the contact form, and someone from Spotify will be happy to help you migrate your Premium privileges (if you have them), library, playlists, friends, etc. to this new account.

After that, your Facebook account won't get reactivated anymore.

Hope it helps. 🙂

Thank you, that's helpful.

I'm glad this little "workaround" exists — but disappointed that it's not particularly easy, obvious, or intuititive. Reminds me of Facebook's own annoying process to deactivate your account.

All signs point repeatedly to Facebook making it extremely cumbersome and difficult to disconnect your identity from their company. Why anyone trusts Facebook is beyond me. I'm disappointed that Spotify is aligned with them but of course that was inevitable.
