Prevent my Spotify-Account from being shown as a Google search result

Hi there,

I just noticed that when somebody searches for my name on google my spotify account comes up.

For professional reasons I don't want this to happen.

In most social networks / services there is a select option to control if the profile is found by google.

I cannot find it on spotify. Can you advice me on how to deactivate this?

Thanks!

Right now there is no option to prevent your profile from showing up in Google search.

Your name shows on your Spotify profile because you either created your Spotify account using Facebook, or you made a Spotify account and then connected it to your Facebook.

If you have your Facebook account connected to you Spotify account, you could disconnect it. If you created your Spotify account using Facebook, then you cannot. After you disconnect it, it can take up to a week for your profile in Google to change back to your Spotify username. Then it won't show up in Google when people search your name because your username will be showing on your profile instead of your real name.

If you want Spotify to add an option to prevent your profile from appearing in Google, you should suggest the idea here:

Hi Matt, thanks for your quick reply.

Outch, rather disappointing I must say. Technologically it's not a big feature at all. I presume it's a strategic decision in favor of product reach, not so much in favor of user experience. Wouldn't an opt out be a sufficient compromise?

For me this really means I have to disconnect facebook and go through the process you mentioned. Which obviously sucks.

Feel free to forward my remarks to the appropriate dev team.

You're welcome! I'll pass it on.

Oh man, I just realised, that I did in fact create my account using facebook. I think back then you had to.

This means I have to delete my account and set it up from scratch. I have to say: underwhelming. ;(

Please, pass it on to your product owners. I am sure I am not the only one on this one.

I suggest you contact support so they can help you delete your account and transfer all your stuff to the new account

If you get an automated reply email telling you to check the help section or the community, you need to reply back to it.

Support usually replies within 24-48 hours.
