Problems applying student discount to existing premium account

Solved!

Problems applying student discount to existing premium account

I'm currently paying for the premium plan.  I'm a qualifying student and want to apply the student discount.  I went through the verification process, uploaded a screenshot of my term schedule and got an email saying that I was verified.  When I go to my subscription options I still see that I'm being charged $9.99 and I don't see an option to apply the student discount.  The verification email says "Please click here to be directed back to Spotify to access your offer." like there is something additional that I need to do.

Am I doing something wrong here?  Has the discount actually been applied or not?  I emailed spotify support but haven't heard anything back for nearly a week.

Annoyingly, it doesn't appear that the Spotify payment system will allow some US customers to adjust the price of an existing recurring subscription to apply the student discount.

To get your discount, all you need to do is cancel your current subscription following the steps over on this help page then re-subscribe using your student discount link. No need to worry, you will still get all of the Premium days you have paid for doing this, you can cancel and resubscribe right away and you won't be billed until your next renewal date.

Alternatively Spotify support should be able to fix this manually for you. When you got in touch you will have received an automated email reply telling you to post on the community. If you reply directly to that email (even if it says not to) that will bump your case over to an adviser.

Rather than canceling and resubscribing I replied to the automated message and got a response pretty quickly.   Great support once I got ahold of a real person!

Yup! That works! How annoying. Please fix this Spotify devs!

hi there peter. there is no option to add the nus discount to my existing premium account. is there any way i can add this without cancelling and re registering? It's almost as if spotify don't want me to have the discount...

@willbradley

There is currently an issue not allowing some users to sign up for the student discount.

I suggest you contact support so they can help you

https://www.spotify.com/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support/

If you get an automated reply email telling you to check the help section or the community, you need to reply back to it, even if it's from a no-reply address.

Support usually replies within 24-48 hours.
