Question about the specifics of student discount

So I am a freshman in college who will be attending my first year in the fall. I am enrolled and have signed up for my classes and everything but when I tried to sign up for premium using the student discount they said they they could not find me so I am not sure if i need to contact spotify the company or if the student discount does not even count until I am physically attending the classes in a month and a half. Help please...
