My Question or Issue

Whenever I check my recently played list, there are usually new additions to the list while I have my Spotify closed.  Usually they're from artists I've never heard of or they have super cheap album art.  I end up deleting them from the list but I should have started a list.  Here are some of the artists:


Israel Cipre - Sagaus

Dimension IV - Another Dimension IV

Picar de Rio - Beach Machine

Jolinder - Brain Scanner 

Esteban Tetismo - Bida


When you search for any of these rando artists and albums in google, they don't exist at all.  When you play any of the songs, it's all just unidentifiable music score.


I've gone to the "Someone has taken over my account" support page and done all the steps twice and still these mysterious artists keep showing up in my list.


I'm wondering if it's related to this article about hackers and access tokens.


Any tips or help would be much appreciated, it's a lil creepy they keep showing up in my recently played list.

Recently I am having the exact same issues as mentioned above. I had reset my password and also signed out everywhere. But it is still happening. Hope you can help me regarding this matter ASAP. Thanks!



I've also been having this problem. I've gone through and reset my password, logged out of all sessions (have an account through FB and changed the FB password). And most recently cleared all associated devices.


It still appears to be happening, attached below is a screenshot with the very fake looking artists/songs (circled in pink). What are next steps on fixing this?

If you're all still feeling that the protection steps aren't helping your account from having strange behavior on it, i would suggest  you consider creating a new account.


In order to easily transfer all your data to the new account all you need to do is to follow the steps provided on this Spotify answer.

Note: you'd have to redownload all your offline content

Sorry, but this is obviously not the solution. I've gone through, logged off all devices in the menu, reset the password to a ridiculously secure one and it's still happening. This was a well reported issue previously and it's still happening. It looks like a bug, or a loophole/issue on Spotifys end . We shouldn't have to create new accounts.

Several things we need to know:

  1. Does your music get interrupted while you're listening?
  2. Do you have songs missing or being added to your playlists? 
  3. Is there anything else out of the ordinary happening in your account? 
  4. Have you logged on on another device to see if the same happens?

Thanks for reaching out.


We take the security of your account very seriously and and appreciate the measure you took so far to protect it. Keep in mind that it takes a while for the recently played section to get updated, so it's possible that no further precautions are necessary .  If you're however experiencing interruptions and changes to your music library, there're a couple of more things you can do.


It's a good idea to have a look at all third party apps that have access to your account and remove any that you don't recognize. You can find detailed instructions on how to do this here. You should also change the passwords of any associated services that remain. 


We also recommend that you run a scan on all your devices for malicious software. If that doesn't fix thing, you can follow the steps at the bottom of this page and we'll straighten everything out.

I just want to add here that I've been seeing this problem for months too and based on what other people are reporting here, this really sounds like it could be a bug in attributing listens to the wrong user rather than (or in addition to) a security issue where our credentials get compromised.
It's very visible now that the year in review special has been issued and my 'Your Top Songs 2020' playlist has a lot of songs I've never listened too.
Please take this beyond an individual support ticket so it gets deeply looked into by the engineering team.

also, I'm trying now to remove access for Apps, but no matter which one I try I get a 500 response error ("We all mixed up" page)


What I find worrying about this thread is that apparently the issue is known to Spotify for at least 1.5 years. It seems they did not come up with a proper solution (I'm happy to have me proven wrong). 

A few days ago I found myself in a similar situation as many people in this thread: the items shown in my account as "recently played" were completely unknown to me. Suddenly I followed two dozen artists that I have never even heard of. Plus, my playback stoped regularly like if someone pressed the pause button on a device that hijacked my account.

Of course I followed all the recommended steps: logout from all devices, change of password, decoupling of Spotify and Facebook (did that some time ago already), restart. The random content was still there even though the random stopping of playback ceased. Of course I did not create a new account as I agree with other users here that this is NOT a solution to the actual issue. 

So what I would like to know - without the bs bingo you usually get to read here ("we appreaciate that you stick with us on this one..." etc. pp.) : How do I get rid of these falsified statistics? I would appreciate a straight to the point answer here, thanks. Secondly, what is being done so legitimate users can denounce fake (musician) accounts? I found no way to report my issue with these accounts, namely that they are fake! 

I shall give this one more try, taking a close and regular look at my credit card statement in the coming weeks. Another situation like that and I am gone. 

Note: I use secure passwords. I am a paying Premium user. 



I had absolutely the same issue today, but this happened to me for the first time. Also today I have received email about suspicious activity and Spotify forced me to reset my password. All these artists can not be found in Google, it looks like some noname music. When I checked out these artists, all of them are popular mostly in Frankfurt and Buffalo (US), but I do not live in Germany and USA. What was that?

it is clear to me now that:

  1. This is a symptom of people hacking Spotify to generate cash (i.e. not to get free song plays)
  2. This is likely much more widespread that suggested here, since most people are simply too busy and don't bother reporting
  3. Spotify is being grossly negligent since
    1. Spotify refuses to acknowledge this publicly
    2. Spotify's PR-driven denial policy prevents them from providing simple tools for reporting breaches and phantom tracks
    3. Morally responsible companies are committed to being open with their customers when it comes to security breaches. Spotify continues to blame the victims, asking us to reset passwords
    4. Spotify appears to be doing zero investigation and providing next to zero resources to resolve this. They don't even respond on this forum
    5. This reduces the income of legitimate musicians, since the fake track listings take a slice of the fixed 'pie' that Spotify pays to artists.


Reading all of this is giving me the creeps. I discovered that I was a meat-puppet for stream miners early this morning, and the whole situation launched me into a rabbit hole. 


When I saw two playlists (attached is one-- they were both identical) under recently played, I checked my scrobbler and noticed it was playing in between my own sessions. I had listed to about 7 songs washing the dishes, but the strange part was that these songs were being played before I had even started. They began again right after, too. Almost like they waited until I was done to continue. It occurred all through the night too (fortunate to have avoided any sudden song changed like others have reported!)


What really threw me off was the songs themselves... they were either strange classical piano solos or what I could only describe as 'eclectic electric guitar.' And when I say eclectic, I mean "reported sonic warfare in Cuba" weird. A song that makes it feel like someone's watching you, something is going to pop out at any moment. Not enjoyable after a wake and bake. And if you go to any of these "different" artists, they contain a handful of singles with repeating album art, almost the same exact music styles, and very peculiar (similar) titles. I'm sure these are just scraping the surface of thousands of fakes out there. The WORST part is that you just get the feeling they're all being created by the same individual. You could only really understand if you wasted as much time as I clearly had digging through these. Counter-intuitive? Yes. Interesting? A bit.


One I'd like to highlight in particular is 'Cabinet of Fools': out of curiosity, I searched it in Spotify to see if it appeared. What I found was multiple strange, but similar, tracks on random, varied albums. The songs are basically the same, but some albums were smoother while others included drums. But they're all titled 'Cabinet of Fools'... I can't really pinpoint what's going on with these but I'd love to know. It's hard to describe, just see for yourself. Brace yourself on the songs I posted though, because I wish I'd have had a warning.


So, I went through the old song and dance with my password and logouts. Things are fine *knock on wood* although I wish it didn't happen in the first place. It's kind of creepy, kind of morbid, however also intriguing to peel back the layers of this mystery onion.


I feel like my account is secure again, but the thought of any one of these tracks spooking me on a quiet drive, or even worse, in the middle of the night, is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.



I started having this issue about 4 days ago.... Random music showing in recently played. I am a PAYING PREMIUM SUBSCRIBER and about to cancel over this because it's creepy, and it's sad Spotify has no fix for this (a new account is not a fix) and doesn't seem to take 2 factor authentication seriously.  So this started about 4 days ago, then I was listening on my phone Friday, and it randomly stopped playing out of my phone. When I opened the app on my phone I could see it was playing some random artist I'd never heard of through another device. I looked at the devices available and there was some random desktop chrome player on there playing the music (btw, would sure be nice if I could name my devices so that I would recognize them...otherwise you just see random letters and numbers or generic device names so I can't tell what is legit and what isn't). I switched back to my device and what I wanted to play and whoever was on the other end was just messing with me and kept stealing it back or playing their weird random/crappy songs. I changed my password, unlinked any accounts/apps that were synced, logged out of all devices, changed my email password, changed my Facebook password, and it was still happening. Repeated these steps again, still happening. Repeated again still finding random music in my recently played. please help! And please don't tell me to create a new account-that is not a fix/solution, that is a workaround and there is no reason to believe a new account won't suffer from the same exploit. You need to offer a fix that actually secures the users account--this should be kicked up the chain to your security leads or chief info security officer. This is a critical flaw and it's not just a crummy password. I am using strong passwords and this is continuing to happen. These artists all seem to be fake--i Google them and nothing comes up except links to other streaming services....



Same troubles. These random items started showing up a few weeks ago. These, mostly or completely, made up groups are finding a way for me to listen to them and investigate them on the web... "Bridge of Secrets" has a new song "Secrets" I never listened to until it showed up on my recently played list. I see they have a Facebook account which might be a nice avenue for someone to gain access to Spotify. I am putting up with this annoyance since it is Christmas time but since I pay money for this service, I would like it to work as advertised. Oh and the Christmas Hits playlist is legit, I actually listened to it on purpose.

Hey here is something else interesting, as I am writing this in Central Time Zone in the US and the current time is 2:22pm but my post that I am writing says "Your content was last auto-saved at 8:23pm" Where does this thing think I am???

Here are some measures you can take to secure your Spotify account.


If you have tried the steps to reset your Spotify account's, Facebook's and email (associated with Spotify)'s password but none of these helped, feel free to reach out to support.


As for the songs that you keep getting in your Recently Played, you can report any fraudulent songs that cannot be found on Google here. Meanwhile, you can rest assured that we take these reports very seriously and all fraudulent content will be taken down eventually.

What are we supposed to report the songs/artists as?  The reason choices are:

Offensive, Violent or Inappropriate Content
Personal Image or Identity


none of those really meet the reason we are reporting these songs.

we're sorry to hear about what you've experienced with your Premium account and music as we honestly understand how frustrating this can be. Let's take a closer look onto the situation and ways we can deal with it without focusing too much on creating a new account.


For one, when you notice unrecognized or unauthorized devices connected to your account, you can log out everywhere by following the quick steps you'll find here. This will be immediately more effective than switching back to your device, as it will cut any connection between your account and the unauthorized device(s).


You can also combine this action with a subsequent password reset, to make sure that whoever is trying to access your account with the device you cut off won't be able to log in again with the same password. You can always use this link to reset your Spotify password.


We can also suggest, since you mentioned a link between your Spotify account and Facebook profile, to make sure you disconnect your Spotify from any third-party apps since the related access credentials could have been compromised and used to access your Spotify in unauthorized ways. Take a look here to see how you can disconnect Spotify from other apps.


Lastly, it's worth a shot to change your email address to a different one, since the current one itself could have been compromised. This would in turn shed some light on the passwords reset attempts you took having been ineffective. You can change your Spotify email on your Account overview page.

I would like to report the same issue, I have taken all the proposed steps except for creating a new account. I changed my Spotify password multiple times, logged out all devices, even changed my email password. So there is no way a third party has access to my account but still somehow songs show up in the recent playlist. No playlists are created or altered or any other weird activity, its only songs in the recent played list. I don't think that is my problem to solve but Spotify's. Since there are many accounts affected, I hope there is a

solution soon.




Hi Spotify I am running into the same problem is there any way you could contact me to get this issue resolved, I don't like paying for premium just to have some else hack my account. I don't know where to look for the URI's of the songs but the names are:

I am having the same issue. I log on to listen, and I am getting weird Eastern European groups that I have never even heard of!! I changed my password, signed off of everything, and erased all of my offline devices. Let's see if this helps!
