Re: Spotify login problems

Re: Spotify login problems

sigh

BUMP

This is an ongoing issue for me and I've got well past the point of being frustrated. Every single time i login using my facebook credentials it says an SMS has been sent and I need to use that to login.

That itself isn't so bad but sometimes the SMS never comes and I literally have to spam the login process to trigger an SMS.

The issue is directly related to the security settings attached to your Facebook Account. If you've got "Require me to enter a security code each time an unrecognized computer or device tries to access my account" enabled within : https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=security&section=approvals&view

This will occur every time for you, although you may "Authorize" spotify when you get the notification within Facebook of an "unauthorized" application. That itself doesn't make a difference.

Another workaround is to generate an App Password on Facebook's end, which will allow you to login using your Facebook email and the generated application password. The only downside to this is it's a randomly generated password that can be difficult to remember.

The proper solution to this....

Spotify allow their accounts created with Facebook to set passwords. So we can use our facebook email address in combonation with the spotify password to login.

This isn't just an issue on Windows, also confirmed on Mac and Linux.

FRUSTRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try making a new account without Facebook (on sign up, choose "create an account using email address") and then connect the new account to Facebook on preferences.

Then you can use a Spotify username and password to log in, while having your Facebook features.

Hi, I have moved this to the accounts section, as it isn't system dependent.

An, as well as that - do you have any 2 step authentication set up in facebook?

Thanks Liam,

As mentioned in my previous post, yes I've got 2 step.

Then disable it to stop this 🙂

Just out of interest, you might be able to set up a device password which would give you a Spotify username and password to sign in which might avoid this issue without you needing to remove 2 step authentication.

Thanks, I gave it a go but had no success.

Any updates from a support member? I found it to difficult to actually follow up with official support. I launched a ticket and then got a response asking me to re submit with all the details as they only half recieved my message on their end.

Pathetic really, I never got back to the support because I was on a mobile device for a long period of time and was over it. I went to follow up a few weeks ago, clicked sign in on the website. Boom got a nice big error not allowing me past the sign in point.

/rage quit.

You're not making it easy Spotify.

Hi there, I have now escalated this to staff for you - you should get an answer soon 🙂

This sounds more like a connection issue to me. Are you using a Proxy connection at all? Sometimes, these authorisations could be related to your internet connection. Otherwise, it could be related to the way your system reads to Facebook - and therefore would see it as a new device.

Thanks for the response David, I'll get back to you on this one. I generally run Spotify at work which has a complex setup.

I'll run some checks at home.

Cheers.

I was having the exact same problem.

Here's how I fixed it:

Go into FB settings > Security Settings > App Passwords and generate a password for Spotify.  Copy and paste it into The Spotify login password box and you should be good to go.
