Spotify Family when a member lives abroad

HI there:


My family is considering getting Spotify Premium for Family, but they live in Spain and I live half way between Spain, England and Australia. I had trouble with this before because when I first got Spotify Premium I was living in Australia and when I got back to England I had to create another account because it wouldn't allow me to use the same one. So, now my question is: if we get the Family Premium - can I use it abroad? It would be billed in Spain but I'm going to England in two months and I don't want to lose the Premium account again.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If so, how did you sort it out?

Please help us out on this question. I live in the Netherlands, my girlfriend in Brazil and we have a family premium account. I cannot login on my app or on my computer (ERROR 3), but i can login to my account. Frustrations are running extremely high, please help us out.

Welcome to the community!


First off, since you are planning to get the Premium for Family, then please take note of the following requirements for your members:


  • Reside at the same physical address as you.
  • Be a Free user, or a Premium user who purchased their Premium directly from Spotify.

That means that you and your family members should be on the same place for them to accept your family invite.


You may also want to check further information here.


Once your members successfully accepted the invite, and joined your Premium for Family, then they'll be able to use the Premium feature anywhere in the world for as long as they like. That means, you and your family members will then be able to use your Spotify and enjoy Premium features even if you're abroad.

Error 3 indicates an issue with your login details. You can usually get things working again by:

  • Checking your login details are correct. Make sure you’re using your Spotify username (not your email address) and password. If you created your account using Facebook, use the Log In with Facebook tab. 
  • If you’re still having issues logging in, try resetting your password.  

If it didn't work, then I'd suggest you to contact Spotify directly through their Contact form, so they can check your account from their end, and to better explain what happened.

I think the definition of "family" in this product is too limited. There are families that live at the opposite side of the world. It's not nice calling it "family" only if we all live at the same house. Makes me want to not leave my parents place. It will be awesome if this limitation doesn't exist. Orr find other ways to verify.
