Spotify Gift Card

Why can't spotify gift cards be used in conjuction with the student discount? It seems as though those gift cards are just unfairly losing value.

Currently, it's necessary to use a recurring payment method to apply for the student discount. As gift cards are not one of them, you'll have to use a credit card or a PayPal account.
