My Question or Issue
For several months (pretty much years at this point), my Spotify friends feed has not been updating, it only shows 1 friend I have, while it should have a dozen others. This has been going on for far too long for it to be a problem on my end as I have changed my devices, settings, and other things to try and fix it. I have reinstalled Spotify and my OS but nothing helps. I also see no friends through my Facebook integration even after disconnecting and reconnecting my Facebook profile multiple times. All my settings are the same as my friends and he can see his friend activity but I can't. I already posted about this problem once, and was told it would fix itself but that was months ago. This is very infuriating as it has been going for so long.
Solved! Go to Solution.
We have seen the reports of people saying Friend Feed is not working for them, and we are happy to investigate specific cases, because as far as we are aware, there are no issues with Friend Feed working.
Firstly, it’s important to restate that ALL users had “Share my listening activity on Spotify” turned off as default - so users you followed and saw in your Friend Feed in the past, will no longer show in your Friend Feed, UNLESS they turned “Share my listening activity on Spotify” back on.
Also worth noting that you don’t need Facebook set up for Friend Feed to work.
Having said that, all of the below must be true for users to show in your Friend Feed:
If all of this is true for you and your friend and they don’t show up in your Friend Feed, then:
Once we have this we can do some checking. Thanks all.
I have the same issue. It helped getting some of my friends to enable 'Share my listening activity on Spotify' but for others it didn't. Most of the friends that didn't reappear was from Facebook but they are back now and what might have helped was changing some privacy settings Facebook.
I'm don't know which changed privacy settings caused Facebook friends to reappear, because Facebook's privacy settings is like a jungle to navigate.
I'm not even sure if the was the changed privacy settings that caused them to disappear in the first place because I restricted a lot of my Facebook privacy settings and removed data sharing with a lot of 3rd parties around the same time threads here on Spotify community started popping up.
Still not all friends on Spotify is back.
I will re-restrict privacy settings on Facebook to test if it helps with Spotify (and Tinder but that a whole other issue)
I'm sorry for my uncertainty. I just wanted to give a hint to something that might help.
i hate how spotify are handling this.
i’ve commented under soo many threads about REVERTING the updates they did a couple months ago but their replies HAVE NOT BEEN HELPFUL !!!!
i am sooo unbelievably annoyed at how this is being handled.
WE ARE PAYING FOR YOUR APP SO WE SHOULD GET EVERYTHING WE ARE ENTITLED TO ESPECIALLY SINCE MOST OF US HAVE BEEN USING THE APP FOR MANY YEARS WITH ZERO PROBLEMS
why not just revert your stupid updates and KEEP EVERYTHING HOW IT WAS?! i fail to see why the update needed to happen

Hoping by now they will begin to realise disrupting the experience will not work, and will backfire in unexpected ways. don't mess with music. \m/

I hope Spotify has the decency to fix this mess, but I have a sneaking suspicion it will never be resolved. I'd love to log on to Spotify and see what everyone is listening to again, but that's unlikely at this point. The default to private was unnecessary though because everyone has always had the option to do a private session if they were embarrassed to be seen listening to a Disney soundtrack. Meanwhile, it doesn't seem to matter whether you have share what I'm listening to on or off, because everyone is having trouble with their feed anyway.
My friend has "share my listening activity" on and he's listening to music right now and it's not showing up on my feed. Don't tell me to do a clean reinstall and all of that nonsense again because we both know that doesn't resolve the issue. It's ridiculous that this still hasn't been fixed.
Well, change it back ? I can't text all my friends individually to turn it on manually, plus official accounts like Pure Noise Records and people that I do not know personally
This is NOT a user's responsibility to INFORM THEIR FRIENDS. This is the app's responsibility to inform its users. It's like if you cound't see what your friends post on IG or tweet, and IG or Twitter would delegate to you to tell your friends about the changes that they pushed 😂 These kind of changes, without information, without a warning create so much collateral damage to Spotify itself, that PMs should make sure they communicate it to the Communications team before it gets flooded with reports and massive threads like these.
I've double checked and have multiple people tell me they can still see people.
I'm also experiencing this issue. I've tried deleting the app on both Windows and Mac, toggling on and off, signing out and in with both Facebook and email/password, clearing cache...etc but nothing works.
Also do let know if this works for you, It did work for 2 people for strange reasons.
I just checked and my boyfriend has the setting turned on, is playing music right now, can see what others are listening to, and I do not see his activity. Just “Let friends and followers see what you’re listening to.” Even though I have the setting turned on.
Hi @czubizzle,
Thank you for keeping in touch.
Could you try unfollowing one of your friends (who have had recent activity) and follow them again? Sometimes this kicks off the Fried Feed.
Let us know how this goes.

Friend Activity is completely broken.
It says "Let friends and followers on Spotify see what you're listening to. Go to Settings > Social ...."
[YES] I have "Share my listening activity on Spotify" toggled to on.
[YES] I have confirmed at least one friend has this set to ON and is listening to music.
[YES] I have logged out and logged back in with both email AND Facebook.
[YES] I have tried on both my Windows 10 machine AND Macbook Pro and see the same issue.
[YES] I have deleted the apps and reinstalled them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Try reinstall Spotify.
Try browser version of spotify.
Thank you for your suggestion, however the browser version doesn’t support this feature and as I mentioned previously I’ve already reinstalled the app on two different machines to no avail.
