sorry if wrong place...
As title suggests; however i am **somewhat** aware that what i ask is possible, so i am not asking **how** i am asking >>>
If i am a premium user **which i am** and the music is in the *public domain* which it is, otherwise Spotify is the biggest music pirate ever (joke)
My question is instead... WHY can i not **as a premium user, and if the music is in the public domain**, download the actual music file to my pc to upload to my MP3 player for walking etc?
I think this is very unfair when i am paying for a service, that i cannot use the files **anywhere else** anyone else agree??? any info on IF/WHEN/HOW we will be able to do this??? if not... why not???
Ty (i have autism)

Hi Grahamlee,
Spotify works by streaming the files to your PC where it is decoded and played by the spotify client, it's not quite as simple as a transfer of an MP3 file

JayLB does a great job of explaining how Spotify's offline system works if you're interested:
typo in first line - should read **i know this is NOT possible** thx

wow... first off thank you for the fast reply
second... it explains EVERYTHING in the first paragraph pretty much
I do understand how royalties work... i just could not understand that is how it also works with spotify so, thank you for the redirect
MAYBE a bit pedantic now... but. Why does spotify not release a GOLD - Premium service (or something similar) where we **can** download to our pcs??? **like itunes**?? << reason i don't use itunes??? because its FAR too expensive ((shop prices... NEAR enough lol))
Marking your reply as the solution... thanks _Rob
I would assume it's something to do with how Spotify licenses its music from content aggregators and record labels
If you'd like you can suggest this feature to Spotify itself, maybe they can give you some insight as to why they don't allow downloads:
