Still charged even though I had no money on my card

Usually if my subscription runs out for premium i can just wait till payday to pay it off it will say at the top (sorry your payment didnt go through pleas update your payment method) and I never get my card charged usually because I never have money on it unless I'm paying my premium bill.
This time even though I had no money on my card I still got charged and thus got an over draft fee. Which is really frustrating. why out of all the times I let me premium run out so I could have extra money for other things does it decide to charge me now?
