Stuck in Limbo - Email Not Rec as Tied to Active Account But Also Not Rec for New Password

I'm trying to set up my Family Premium.  My son has/had an existing free account tied to *snip*.  He is unable to join our Family Premium because:

1. Spotify does not recognize this email address as being tied to an active account.

2. Spotify won't let him sign up (again) using this emeail address because the "email address is taken."

So he's caught in limbo.  I cannot get a new password because Spotify does not recognized the account.  I cannot sign up with the email address because Spotify recognizes that the email address has been "used."  What do I do?

set up the family account and after add your family members by entering their email send your son an invitation to join the family group, he should recieve an email which inviting him to join!
