Student discount: does the country matter?

Hey everyone! I'm a German music-lover, currently thinking about upgrading to premium with the student account. I am living in Belgium atm though and enrolled at a Belgian university. Therefore I was wondering which country setting I should set my profile on when upgrading. If I have it set to Belgium, will I still have premium access when traveling home to Germany? Or does it matter at all? I usually have my profile set to Germany, to get recommendations for some music from home in the browse section 😉

It's a tricky one as mostly your IP address is what determines the location of your Spotify account, however, while on a premium subscription there is no vacation mode (on a free account you only have 14 days of use in other countries) so you'll still have all the access to the music you want, uninterrupted. 

For the time being, I would simply suggest the upgrade and you should have no problems in the short term.

So I just wanted to upgrade. Unfortunately, when verifying my UniDays account, where I had to indicate my university, I could only opt for Germany or the UK as my country. Any idea why that might be? 😕 I wasn't able to choose Belgium, in order to find my university in the list...

Hey @Anne-Tholen!

The student discount is only currently available in Germany, the UK and US, so you won't be able to get this in Belgium. We'll let everyone know if this changes in the future.

A Premium subscription allows you unlimited access to Spotify wherever you are in the world. This means that you'll be able to keep your country set to Germany whilst you're studying in Belgium.
