Trying to create account

Ok basically i've been trying to help someone create an account for spotify i type their email and password then when i go to choose a username and fill the rest in, go to sign up it won't do it and yes im aware that it could be a taken username but i've tried so many and i pretty much ran my hand over my keyboard and got a bunch of letters and that still wouldn't work. Doesn't say it's taken just gives me a red box and sometimes not even that i click sign up and nothing happens.
