US Navy - Going out to sea for three months. No internet access. Keep offline available?

US Navy - Going out to sea for three months. No internet access. Keep offline available?

Hey, this happened last time I went out to sea. Spotify stopped letting me use my offline access after 30 days. Luckily, that time we were only out for forty days. This time though, we are going to be out for over three months. I work on a submarine for the US Navy, for those curious. Hooyah.

Anyway, I understand that Spotify needs users to log on once every 30 days to validate their subscription. But I am wondering if there is any way to circumvent this. I've been using spotify since last summer and do not have any music via other mediums. I absolutley love the service and plan to keep using it, even if I can't figure out a way to keep it for the whole run. But perhaps there is a way?

I would gladly pay for a year up front if it would toggle some flag on my device that let me go for extended periods of time without logging in. If this service isn't available I think it should be considered. There are plenty of people in the armed forces that are in situations where internet access is not available. Even people that may be travelling abroad.

Looking forward for advice.

Hey @wslatter and welcome to the community!

To make sure you can enjoy your music the whole time, I'd pay in advance as you suggested by yourself. Of course you're able to pay for a year, just choose PayPal or a debit card as a payment method. Another option is to send yourself an e-card or buy a gift card and redeem the codes. The subscription will be extended then.

Hey Carina,

The problem is there is no set way currently for me to pay in advance. I have a debit card linked to my account and it withdraws the fee monthly. As far as I can tell from my account management page there is no way to alter how much or often you pay, you can only pay monthly. Or purchase cards. The thing with the cards though, is I don't want to invest the money in them if the service is still going to require internet access after 30 days to 'validate' my account status...which I imagine it will. The problem is there will be literally no point during the 3+ months I will be underwater for me access the internet, even for just a few seconds so my spotify app can verify my status.

Unless there is. Maybe the e/gift cards? I would love if a tech or spotify rep could chime in on this method.

My hestiation is based on the help files stating that part of the reason the service needs to check in monthly is that it is also how the company determines royalties to be paid to artists, off of my recorded plays.

@wslatter Sorry, but there is no way to prevent the app from needing to connect to the Internet after 30 days.

Several people who are in your current situation have posted the same problem here. Unfortunately there is no way around this.

Even paying in advance, the app has to connect after 30 days.

Did they change something in the system in the last year? I have been abroad last year and didn't have an internet connection for 50 days at least while travelling.. Never had problems!?

Nope it has always been like that. I can confirm from experience I have been cut off from my offline content after 30 days offline so it definitely does happen!
