Unauthorized use of my account to play 1 song over and over.

Solved!

Unauthorized use of my account to play 1 song over and over.

Hi, everytime I've opened up Spotify in the past 2 days the last played track has been some stupid random song named "For Free (Feat. Conor Maynard)" by Anth, Conor Maynard.

First few times I brushed it off thinking I listened to the song drunk or it played after another previous search I did.

However now I'm seeing an unknown device being shown in my devices on the Spotify player named "A0001". It seems they have been playing this song on repeat nonstop for god knows how long. I looked on my Account page and there was an unrecognized Windows 7 laptop. I have now removed the device, but is there a way that Spotify can look into this? Can I block this device?

A lot of websites/services send an email to you as an indication you have been logged on to a new device. Why does Spotify not have this? Do they, and I'm just missing it?

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hey @Vinnies

I have been notified that no more strange activity has been detected so far.

May I ask if your on a shared WIFI network or if you have allowed someone access to your account? If you are on a shared network this might explain the unexpected device on your list.

I also forgot to mention that it's a good idea to sign out everywhere via your account overview and then change your password, making sure it is a long, unique one which includes numbers and capital letters.

If you are not on a shared network, have never shared your account details and the above steps do not work, i would advise you to contact Support directly via their contact form.

If you do have to contact Support directly, please note to gain a faster response from them, reply to their "no-reply" e-mail.

Thanks,

Hey @Vinnies

Sorry to hear this. I would strongly recommend that you change your Spotify password as soon as possible. I would suggest a long password with capitals, symbols and numbers to make it harder to guess.

I will escalate your case and request that an official employee can monitor your account.

Thanks,

Thanks for looking into this one. I changed my password and have had no issues thus far.

I am not on a shared wifi and I do not share my account.

I just don't like changing my password constantly, but it was necassary. Cheers.
