Where'd the music go?

I was wondering how much this happens to the rest of you:

1-discover great new music

2-star the hell out of their songs

3-listen to said amazing music

4-less than a week later all but their EP are no longer available on Spotify

5-weep bitterly

I jut started getting into Spotify and I've made some great new discoveries, but what a tease. Is this a common occurence to have music just stop being available? I assume that this will be an inherent problem due to licensing and money issues, but I'm trying to get away from "acquiring" my music but that'll suck if I can't become invested, so to speak, in the music here and that my playlists and favorites can just disappear without notice. 

Is there any difference if I pay for the premium service in having more access?
