cannot connect to last.fim

I reinstalled both desktop applications - Spotify and Last.fm - but I cannot make a connection to the Last.fm server from within Spotify. I can scrobble from iTunes. I am not behind a firewall. And i am usinging the same userid and password in Spotify that I am using for the iTunes connection.

That is definitely strange, are you connecting via a proxy?

No proxy. Auto-Detect selected.

Strange, you will find Spotify will retry the connection everytime you make a change to the last.fm boxes and once completed the errors sometimes don't automatically clear. 

Its worth just double checking that a) its not scrobbling on your last.fm feed b) you get this error everytime you start the client?

Hi,

I have checked, and it is not srobbling to my fm feed (though I can see the iTunes scrobbles). When I restart the Spotify client, and go to preferences, I do not see the error. However, I do not see the scrobble on the fm site. And we I try to change my userid or password for fm in spotify, I rereceive the cannot connect error.

It might be worth a quick password reset on last.fm - just to rule this out being some kind of strange last.fm server error or a caching issue on Spotify.
