cannot get a new account

cannot get a new account

I tried to help my buddy at work setup a new spotify account and every name we chose to register with said it was taken.  I know some of the combinations we used cannot be used by anyone.  No matter what we picked it said taken, even when we used combinations of our company name and numbers etc.  Could this mean the registration server is down or what ?

Many people seem to have that problem.

Try using the dedicated signup page here (log out of Facebook first): https://www.spotify.com/signup/open/

I'm not seeing any reports along those lines. Give it an hour and try again 🙂

Or, what Stupify said.

Community Ergo Sum

This is not the only complaint about this. There has been an earlier thread on this issue:

http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Accounts-and-Subscriptions/Registeration-and-account-problem/m-...

And I'm sure the SpotifyCares twitter has also had people saying that every username is taken. Remember that you need an account to post here in the first place so sign up page problems aren't going to show up here often.

right, like now I am having to sign in to try to help my buddy.  he cannot do it.  But the new signup system is really screwed up.  Why do I say this?  Well now when I try to use the main signup link stupidy suggested, it tells me that his email is already taken!  But when I try to sign in with it, it says it is a inactive account...so it's hung up in the system but now his email is not free to use with another username it's really fouled up, and  unfortunately at this point he is frustrated and doesn't even want to fool with it anymore...

I have a feeling there are alot of people in this situation and therefore spotify is going to miss out on having more users.

I went and read the other thread stupify posted and this is the exact behavior that we experienced.  A username was picked, and the greenlight was given on it, (in otherwords said noone else was using it) but then later when you clicked register it would flag it and say it was taken.  Numerous long and complicated and crazy usernames were chosen all with the same results.  Now all of those usernames and his email are stuck in the system and considered "taken" even though they are not.  So now he would have to come up with not only a alternate email but a even crazier username

A friend of mine experienced this, too.

The first time ALL the usernames she tried were "already taken", no matter how constructed. Then she cleared cookies & cache and retried: this time it seemed to accept the username, but when she hit the "register" button, a "oops! something went wrong" message appeared right above the username field. The email she typed with that username is now "already used".

We tried with "I've forgot the password", the "reset password" email reaches correctly the mailbox, but everytime she clicks on the link, she's redirected to a page that says that "it took too long" and the process didn't go on "for security issues - this isn't really related to timing, we're fast enough. XD

The strange thing is it also happens now on MY computer when I try to sign her up (with different emails or even accessing her email and trying the "reset password" thing), while my own registration process went straight and fast (it was around one month and a half ago).

A month and a half ago there was no registration in the front page, only the dedicated sign up page (which I linked earlier) was used. I believe that the front page registration is broken and the old sign up page should still work.
