gift card problems

I've got a $72 (12month) gift card but when I go to redeem it, it says that it is only a 6month sibscription.

It sounds to me like you might be trying to use the gift card along with a student discount. Unfortunately, Spotify gift cards only work as a flat rate, so your gift card can only be redeemed for the number of months it was sold as (6 months).
