numeric username

hello,

i signed up for spotify and was not given an option to set my username, and have one that is an 8-digit number that i have no relationship to at all. i thought this was normal for Spotify until i saw someone else in my home with an account and they have a self-selected username.

i don't know how this happened (i definitely didn't choose it) and i see that usernames cannot be changed, but when i am elsewhere i don't have the ability to look up the username, i can't login to spotify.

if i need to change my account (premium) i will, but would prefer not to. and if i have to, i'd like to know how to move my playlists, etc over

and WOW, no direct support for Premium users?

Hey @angelkyodo and welcome to the community!

- Every user that signs up via facebook gets an numeric username but its displayed as the name shown on facebook

- I don't know why some users don't have their facebook name attached to there account anymore and why it's only showing numbers for some

- Did something happen to your facebook or did you sign up in 2011?

- The only solution is to create a new account and ask the official customer support (yes, there is one!!!) to remove your old one. They can move all of your playlists too!

With Facebook connected accounts, ultimately you should never really need or see that numerical username since Spotify will use your real name.

Go to my Spotify profile (link in the signature) and click on "followers". There are 4 or 5 users where it only shows a numeric username! You are right with the" you never need the username", but just want to clarify here that not always the facebook name is displayed and I don't know why (these accounts still exist and they're on facebook too.. I know who they are)

Normally when the numerical username displays the person has a duplicate account somewhere. I've found with my friends who become numbers they then have another account (with a different username) that has stolen their Facebook details. It's interesting though, if they log out and back in again using Facebook do they get to that numerical account?

I know that 3 of them have a new account which is displayed as a name but none of them is really using Spotify anymore, which means I don't have to ask them since they probably deleted it. I don't care about the numeric usernames as long as they are not in my activity feed - I don't follow them, so no problems 😄

Just found it interesting that these accounts turned to strings.
