trying to invite a family member, but spotify claims she has an account in a different country

My wife originally opened a spotify account in france, but has not used it. We currently live in the US, and I have a family account and want to invite her to that so that she can enjoy spotify premium. However, spotify won't allow her to accept the invite because they claim she has an account in another country. Have treied setting up a different account, but spotify knows it's the same e-mail address.

Any ideas? - is it possible to delete the account and then reestablish from the US?
