My Question or Issue
The new 4*2 widget with album suggestions isn't showing any album art. Was ok up until yesterday.
Hey there folks,
Thanks to everyone that's taken the time to post their details and screenshots in this thread. We appreciate it.
Our tech team has had a look and is still investigating the situation with the Android widget and types of launchers, but for the time being we can't give an estimated time frame if or when this will be changed or fixed.
As soon as we have an update, we will make sure to let you know, but for now the workaround would be to accept using an official launcher, or use the one widget that works.
Should you need help with anything else in the meantime, the Community's here!
Spotify, this is ridiculous. The widget doesn't work on third-party launchers because you're checking for android.permission.BIND_APPWIDGET, a permission only system apps can get. Nova and others have confirmed this is 100% your issue, not theirs. Stop blaming launchers and fix your widget to work without this unnecessary restriction. This isn't hard—just remove the permission check.
It's been a whole year with the same problem and the same cause but still no updates...

I've had the same problem for a year. I've reinstalled the app and factory reset my phone. I've also contacted the service center in my area.
As can be seen on the homepage of my S25 ultra running one ui 7.0. The spotify widget 4x1 does not display any song. This should display the last played song instead to fill the space and make this more usable. When using the 4x2 widget on my s23 this was never an issue. If music is still playing then there is no problem with the widget. Ideally it can keep the data after a phone restart as well.
Here's the 4x1 and 4x2 side by side on S25 ultra. Battery optimisation is unrestricted. Artwork design looks way better when it works.
A year later, no fix. This should be basic, members of the community have provided enough info and Kieron even put forward the cause / solution.
Just to say I'm also having this issue. Disappointing to see that the cause and a possible solution was provided so long ago and no action has been taken.
same problem! Spotify doesnt care about premium members!!
