Cannot login into spotify android with any account

So this evening I just got logged out of the Spotify app on my android device and have been unable to log in since then, while the app works perfectly on my desktop as well as my mac. I was logged in through facebook before this
I have tried 

1. logging in via Facebook 
2. logging in directly via email
3. logging in using my account's username
4. creating a new account and logging in with that

in all the above cases I am getting the error "incorrect username or password".
Really hope someone can help with this issue

We'd recommend uninstalling the existing app on your device, then download the latest official version here.

Tried that , issue still persists
