I am unable to play any podcasts on my phone.

We'd first recommend taking a look at the steps provided in this support site article.
Further, we'd suggest playing a podcast on a different device, or with the web player. If podacts can play with no issues from another device, please make sure your Sony Xperia device is up to speed with any OS and firmware updates.
On another note, just to confirm, do you get an error message when trying to play a podcast? It'd be helpful if you could share a screenshot of what happens so we can take a closer look on our end. Just make sure that no sensitive/private info is displayed.
