Continue play from within app

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find a solution after a bit of searching so thought I'd ask. Is there a way of pausing/playing from within the app or do I need to do it from the notification bar? The reason I ask is if you pause a track In the notification bar and then go into the app you lose the spotify notification bar so you have no way of resuming play on the track. Sure there is a simple easy round this but I can't find it. Cheers.
