High data traffic registered "in the background" even though not using Spotify

Hi! 

Today I discovered that 731 megabytes of data have been used in the background (whatever that supposed to mean) in one day. 

Since december 31 until today, the 7th of januari, I have consumed 758 mb of data. 26,80 mb listening and the rest have been spent in the background. How is this possible? The day that the 731 megabytes was used, I did not use my phone for more than texting. 

How is it possible that 731mb just vanishes between the 4th and 5th of januari?

I have the same problem on Android 2.3.6. Spotify uses too much 3g data even if i'm only listening downloaded playlists. I've noticed yesterday it used 21mb in 20 minutes listening downloaded music and I only have a 500 mb monthly contract. Now i have it on Offline mode and it stoped using data.

Hope you can solve this issue.
