How do I stop Spotify using data when I'm not on WiFi?

When I'm not using wifi, and using downloaded playlists, in private mode, download over 2G/3G switched off, And "background data" is disabled in the app settings. it still uses data! Megabytes of the stuff. This is totally unacceptable because it is costing me money, it's simply not worth it. So I can't use Spotify offline. What can I do? Why isn't there a WiFi only option for data in settings? Nexus 5, Android 4.4.3, Spotify 1.1.0.113

Does it help if you switch spotify to offline mode?

It didn't seem to but I will try again and check data usage. It annoys me though that I would have to go into settings every time I go out in the car. A permanent "offline mode whenever wifi is not connected" would be a better option.

Yeah that's been suggested somewhere but I can't seem to find it at the moment 😞
