How is offline music stored?

.I currently download my music from google play but someone told me that he has upto 1000 songs stored with just a couple of gigs of space used. How is this possible as my music is only 400 tracks and takes up over 3 gigs. Is spotify music the same quality? does it take up less space offline? If so how? And what would the limit be?

Hi, and welcome to the community!

Normal quality is about 96 bkit/s of track, and Extreme is 320 kbit/s. Have you asked him what quality setting he uses?

What quality does google play download in?

Please note also that Spotify stores it's music with strict DRM, only Spotify can play the track, I can't remember what format it reads but that might affect it ever so slightly although no where near as much as that.
