I have a Nexus V running Android 4.4.2 with no rooting or other changes. When I run Spotify it generally drains about 15-20% of my battery per 30 minutes of music. I tried out Google Play Music and Beats Music. Both of them only drain about 2-3% of my battery in the same amount of time. What gives? I REALLY don't want to give up on Spotify as I like it better than either GPM or BM but this kind of battery drain is not sustainable.
Hi. Does this happen when you are steaming or listening to offline playlists? If streaaming, are you using wifi or 3G/4G? Any chance of a screenshot showing the pretty battery graph and spotify battery usage?
It happens when listening to offline playlists or streaming but I mostly listen to offline playlists. Here's a battery graph. I listened to Spotify for 45 minutes on the train today and since then the phone has been sitting on my desk:
Yikes! I use a Note 3 and a Nexus 7 and I've never seen anything like this. Could you just try reinstalling spotify and see if the issue contiues. You will need to redownload your offline playlists I'm afraid.
I tried that a few days ago. I also did a factory reset 2 weeks ago for an unrelated issue with my camera.
This is a pretty rare situation these days. It was an issue in the past but that was some versions ago so I'm a bit puzzled.

I think I have a similar problem.
I'm using Android 4.4.2 on my Nexus 5.
I think that the drain is quite high considering the amount of time I was listening : ~40 minutes
It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm listening to offline music or streaming it.
The screenshots I've attached show a "good day".
Same here.
Huge battery drain, only listening to local songs, offline.
You can see that Spotify is consuming more battery than any other app.
It's heating too.
Galaxy Nexus with CyanogenMod, Android 4.4.2
Same here. Only listening to offline music, and the battery drain is almost the same of the screen on my Nexus 5 stock.
