My Question or Issue

When I installed Spotify from Play-store and started it, I'm unable to play any songs. It just hangs.

I have tried each of these steps:

  1. Uninstall/Install =  Not working
  2. Clearing all files and cache = Not working
  3. Granted all possible permissions =  Not working
  4. Restarted the device = Not working

I have device formatted sdcard if it matters.

Web-player works just fine. Anything I missed or is there a bug ?

Hello

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry you're having playback issues.

It's strange none of the steps you've taken have made a difference

Have you tried switching accounts, logging out and back in?

Now this will just be something to do in the meantime, we'll research further.💚

No go after latest version: 8.7.18.1138

Broken still...

Hey @dun1982,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

We appreciate the troubleshooting you've done so far, but to be sure that we're on the same page - did you use these steps for a clean reinstall? They are more thorough than a regular one. That way you can make sure the cache is not causing this issue.

If the issue persists, would you mind checking with a different WiFi network or a mobile data hotspot to see if it makes any difference?

We'll be on the lookout.

Yes I used the steps.

If you have seen the emails I have changed with spotify, you'll see the recordings as well and the fact that if I witch between sd card (default storage) and the internal memory, the functionality comes back.

In Android 12, it looks like the sd card does not follow same permission like the older Android versions.

Also note that there are not that many flagship phone manufacturers anymore who even allow sdcard usage, so you probably did not test this use case.

If I unplug the sdcard away and install Spotify, it will work automatically as everything (including cache) is stored to internal "memory". If I plug in any sdcard, change the storage or reinstall spotify with or without cleaning the cache/format the card before hand, the situation remains the same and no songs or albums can be selected.

Only the apps that have proper android 12 support and ask for the permission will work with sd cards...

So please fix this.

In meantime I use internal "memory"  in Spotify Settings > Storage and clean out the cache if it goes over certain gigabytes.

Hey @dun1982,

Thank you for your reply and feedback.

We're always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall. We’re sorry that this means you’re not able to use Spotify like you wish to do at the moment. We appreciate the info you shared about the SD card and its functionality in Android 12. We’ll pass this info to the correct team.

We're constantly aiming to improve our features so we hope you’ll continue using it and find it gets better in the future.

If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

Cheers!
