No full album art on lockscreen

My Question or Issue

On my phone, when I am listening to music, all it does is give me a small rectangle from which to control play/pause, next song, previous song, etc.

However, google play music is able to display the album art and controls "taking over" the lockscreen for music controls.

I've read online that this feature should be supported with my phone and spotify, and it seems to not be a lockscreen limitation as google play is able to do this.

Any idea how I could enable this for spotify?

There is not a way to enable the feature, only because Spotify has not made this available to the public yet. If you want, you could suggest they add it to the app by creating an idea here.
