Hi!

I'm trying to install Spotify on my old HTC Desire that is running Android 2.2.2 but having troubble finding a working version. What version works with 2.2.2 or earlier and where can I find it'?

Officially it's no longer supported due to restrictions/changes in future Android versions. There are links floating around to older versions of the app, but obviously these are no longer supported.
