Search inside the playlist is gone

Solved!

Search inside the playlist is gone

Hey I'm a premium user, I use Pixel 2 XL and right now the Search Bar when you swipe down on the top of the playlist is gone. I can't search for my songs inside the playlist now. That is on android. However I can search it from clicking the 3 dots on right top and click on ''find in playlist'' but I don't care about that. That is not convenient at all! Is this one of the Apple feature things? Like how am I unable to use such basic feature now? What is going on?

Hey folks,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

If you would like the Search function to be reimplemented within playlists, make sure to head on over here and add your vote to the idea. The more votes that the idea garners, the more likely it is that Spotify will consider reimplementing it!

In the meantime, you can check out this post (which includes screenshots) to see how to access the Search function for playlists.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions regarding this.

My Question or Issue

A couple of weeks ago there was an update which removed the simple function to search in a playlist by swiping down and typing in the search bar. Now I have to press on the three dots to the right and find the search in playlist function among all the other lines of text. It takes a lot longer and is really annoying me because sometimes I misslick. Is there a way for me to simply search through my playlist again by swiping down?

Gone for me on Pixel XL OG as well

Same here. Galaxy s9 Plus - Super annoying ...

Yeah, apparently they removed it across all platforms (Though my friends with Iphones still have it so maybe the person who told me that was mistaken). It is probably the worst design choice they have made yet. I am hoping they realize what a bad idea it was and bring it back. I'm also a premium user, have been for I think a couple years now, and it annoys me enough to where I will probably switch to another streaming service if it isn't brought back in a couple weeks.

It actually is still there, but buried in the overflow menu as 'find in playlist'. It's annoying, but at least they didn't delete it totally.

Yeah, I know but because of Spotify's animation it takes too long to open the settings scroll down and click to that. While it was just swipe down in the playlist, like why would you take something so convenient away?

Sorry, didn't read the post properly! In the past, they've taken the feature away totally a couple of times, so I was just relieved to find it still existed (they seem to have an irrational hatred of it). It definitely is annoying though.

Im having this issue too. I seriously hope this isnt a permanent change because this simple thing will literally drive me insane enough to migrate to a different music streaming service like YouTube music. Whoever thought this change was a good idea should be let go.

Yet again we have another app that is bias towards Apple. Recently I think Spotify have changed the Spotify app in Adroid, you have to now click on the 3 dots at the top right corner to change the order you want the songs in and to find a song in the playlist and other stuff. Why have they done this? I pay for premium, they haven't done this for Apple iPhones so why for android? There was no need for this change, its lengthy and annoying. I'm not happy.

In all my years of having Spotify and searching these board and adapting to updates this is the only thing to make me upset enough to post. This feature change is absolutely ridiculous and I can't see how they though this would be an improvement in any way.

It's one of my biggest complaints. It might make the layout look cleaner, but it's decreases the ease of usability so much. No other website makes you click 2-3 extra links just to search something, it's ridiculous.

Hey @culhakaan.

Thanks for providing your feedback on this!

Could you give us a bit more information about this? How did you used to be able to search for playlists, and when/how did that change for you exactly? Also, could you tell us which device you are using?

Thanks! We'll be looking out for your reply 🙂

For me this change happened within the last few updates, at most a week ago. I actually had to make a spotify community account just to ask what on earth is up. Spotify is the only app that actively removes its own features.

Before I could swipe down inside a playlist and search within it. Now that feature is mysteriously gone and the search is under the (---) menu.
Before this change happened one was also able to play through all the hits of a playlist search, that too has been removed.

I understand that functionalties are sometimes moved and the way to reach them are different from version to version, but this app has a tendency to remove them all together and leave nothing convenient behind.

Yeah the search menu along with the filter options use to be at the top of each playlist, so it was really easy to search and sort songs.

Now you have to go into the triple dot menu, which is just needlessly adding steps.

When searching for songs, it adds the search menu at the top of the playlist anyway when you select the option, so I don't know why it was taken away.

When sorting a playlist, it's frustrating because everytime you click a sort option, the tab goes away. If you want to sort by most recently added, you have to go into the triple dot menu twice.

I hope the voting is going to make a difference. And that this is not just an Apple privilege. Thanks for helping, and downvote to Spotify team for removing such convenient feature.

Hello,

It was implemented within the playlist on top of songs. I don't have old screenshots but as far as i see on community there are some people complaining about the change. As some other users said now you need to tap on three dot menu on upper right corner of the screen and choose find in playlist or sort the playlist, which adds unnecesary steps in my opinion, considering how straightforward it was prior to the update. I guess the change happened 1 week ago or so.

I'm a premium user and my device is HTC 10.

  • Thank you.

This is a basic function  that shouldn't  have been taken away to begin with. Please fix ASAP.
