My Question or Issue
When using Spotify in Airplane mode, if your "liked songs" playlist has the new smart shuffle on, clicking on a song is a no-op. There's no error, but nothing happens.
Disabling smart shuffle fixes the issue.
This can be quite frustrating if you have smart shuffle turned on and then board a flight only to realise none of your songs will play.
Hey @gabrielrc,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.
We appreciate your feedback regarding new functions since Spotify is always testing things to make the app better overall.
To continue investigating this further, would you mind including the Spotify version you're currently running in your next response?
We'll be on the lookout.
Hey @gabrielrc,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info you shared.
Just to be on the same page, is the liked songs playlist downloaded on your device to be played offline before activating the Airplane mode?
Also, it would be great if you could check if this issue happens on a different device using your same account. This will give us a better look at it to continue with the investigation.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation regarding this.
We'll be on the lookout.
Hi Oscar,
Just wanted to chime in on this as well. When offline, whether due to having no service, Wi-Fi, airplane mode, or just being offline, Im at least having issues disabling smart shuffle on my liked songs playlist. It brings up the error, prompts me to turn of smart shuffle, and brings me back to the home page, but doesn’t disable the playlist’s smart shuffle. So short story, if I’m offline for any reason I’m not able to disable smart shuffle and cannot access any of my songs downloaded within that playlist.
To go around this I kind of have to know where I’m not going to have service and have to disable smart shuffle before losing service. It’s almost like the playlist activates with smart shuffle on as default. Even when I turn off smart shuffle and close the app, I’ll still go into it and smart shuffle is turned back on.
To set the scene, I have had this issue on multiple devices with my account for over a year. I’ve gone through two Mac books (always updated) and two iPhones (most recent, iPhone 11, always updated to most recent system). That said, I believe the issue is either with Spotify or with my account.
My smart shuffle is always automatically enabled in my ‘Liked Songs’ playlist. Whenever I log into my laptop online or through the Spotify app on both my laptop and IOS device, my smart shuffle/enhance feature is always automatically enabled upon launch.
Now where this bothers me, is on my iOS device. I download my music because I don’t have access to data/internet very frequently. When I launch the app and open my (downloaded) ‘Liked Songs’ folder, it says
“No internet connection
Go online to listen to your Liked Songs or turn off Smart Shuffle to play your downloads.”
Naturally, I want to turn off smart shuffle to play my downloads. However, it takes me back to my library page and I cannot turn off smart shuffle unless I open my liked songs folder first. it’s basically a loop. Library, then Liked songs, then I get ”no internet, turn off smart shuffle, then I get sent back to Library, then I tap Liked songs, then it says “no internet, turn off smart shuffle”
1. Open Library
2. Tap on Liked Songs (downloaded)
3. “connect to WiFi or turn off smart shuffle” message pop up
4. Tap ‘okay’
5. Sends me back to Library
6. And the rest is repeating in the order of this list
The only smart shuffle button for my *downloaded liked songs is IN the default Liked Songs playlist.
This is not the case in regards to playlists that I have created myself. I’m able to access them and turn off smart shuffle when I open them to view.
But again, for Liked Songs, I cannot turn off smart shuffle when I’m not connected to the internet. The only way to turn it off is to first connect to the internet, turn off smart shuffle, then go back offline to access my downloaded songs within my Liked Playlist.
I can disable smart shuffle from the current song being played/within other playlists. However, this does not change the mode on my ‘Liked Songs’ playlist.
Another quirk of this bug, if this helps, is when I am connected to the internet.
1. I open my ‘Liked Songs’
2. Smart shuffle is always automatically enabled
3. I turn off smart shuffle
4. I return to my Library (basically tap back where I can see all of my playlists)
5. I open ‘Liked Songs’ again
6. Smart shuffle has enabled itself automatically
in conclusion this is essentially what it happening. Smart shuffle is always automatically on whether I am or am not connected to the internet. In the chances that I have no service, it gives me a message “please connect to WiFi” and kicks me out of my playlist.
Again, this only applies to my ‘Liked Songs’ playlist. Any playlist I create myself does not have this issue.
My Spotify version is up to date, and as I mentioned before, it has been an ongoing issue with my account on multiple up-to-date devices.
Is this normal or is there a solution?
Hey folks,
For anyone still experiencing this, please let us know your device model, OS version and exact Spotify version so we can investigate further.
