Spotify Overrides Last.fm Scrobbles, publishes the same song multiple times a day

My Question or Issue

I was having problems with last.fm publishing a seemingly random song 100+ times a day. It turns out it was Spotify posting the first track of a playlist to the other scrobbling apps, even though I didn't have Spotify linked to those apps (see the linked ticket below for the notes and logcat messages). It would do this consistently when running low on memory. After uninstalling Spotify I was able to remediate this problem and songs published correctly.

I think Spotify is either:

1. publishing occasional updates that are getting interpreted incorrectly as scrobbling events

2. publishing state events after terminating/crashing that are getting interpreted as scrobbling events

I'd appreciate if someone could take a look into this.
