Spotify autoplays on phone speakers after bluetooth disconnect

My Issue

 For a month the spotify app has been sporadically resumed playback after I move away from my car (bluetooth connected) or from bluetooth connected headphones. The song then continues to play via the phone speakers which can get quite embarrassing.

I've found a few old threads in the support forums that described this issue but it seems to be an open issue.

I'm on the latest version of Spotify for Android.

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with this. Did it start happening after an app or OS update? 

If you haven't already given it a go, try a clean reinstall to see if it makes a difference.
