Spotify instantly shuts down upon launch - Samsung Galaxy S2

Solved!

Spotify instantly shuts down upon launch - Samsung Galaxy S2

Yesterday: my Samsung Galaxy SII used Spotify just fine. I was chillaxing out in the sun, revising for my exam whilst listening to even more chilaxing tunes. You know, the whole exam revising ordeal.

Today: whilst online on my home network (wireless) I open Spotify to synch some new chillaxing tunes. I open Spotify on my computer and see my phone in the devices list. Cool. It automatically starts synching the tunes as soon as it's connected. And stays there. For. A. Very. Long. Time. Stuck at 1 of 12 songs synched. I go to the shop and I'm gone for half an hour. When I'm back I look at my phone, and it's still at 1 of 12 songs synched. What the actual f***?

I try using Spotify on the phone, but there's no response. It's jammed. Okay, so I click my fancy "Home" button on the phone and go back to my desktop and try opening Spotify again. Lo and behold:

It instantly shuts down, it doesn't even log in. Okay, so I try clearing memory cache and try again. Same result. I uninstall Spotify, restart the phone and reinstall Spotify. Same result.

Now: after 1,5 hours of scouring the Internetz I finally find this "apparent" solution. There's only one problem: this is what I've been doing from the beginning. I went online with my phone, tapped my way over to http://www.spotify.com/download/previews/. It instantly asks me if I want to install Spotify. Clickes yes, and it brings me back to Google Play's useless app which doesn't work.

I'm not entirely lost behind a shed computer wise, so a detailed response would be nice.

Bonus info: my phone (again: Galaxy SII) is fully updated and running nothing except Spotify at the time of the crashes.

If I don't manage to fix this by the end of the day, I'm cancelling and moving over to Wimp, simply because they're better.

Try this link for the preview release, if the one above is for some reason taking you to the Play Store: http://download.spotify.com/android/PreviewSpotifyAndroid.apk

Upon reading what other people have said, I tried deleting some playlists. Apparently, Spotify's coders aren't good enough to come up with a solution that supports more than X numer of lists. Not that my playlists count has changed the slightest bit since yesterday (when all was working well), but anyway; I remove 3-4 playlists and start the app again. Omg omg omg, it actually logged in and.. It shut down again.

So, I'm still at a loss here.

This worked, thank you.

Could you please elaborate on the changes to this version? Apart from the obvious ones such as layout and a general lack of useless features (finally! :D), of course 🙂

Well, it's a completely re-written app, to take advantage of improvements in Android and to properly support Android 4 (ICS), which the old version does not.

It now supports high quality streaming and downloading - see the settings in the options menu - and gapless playback.

As it's essentially a beta release though there are some missing features and known issues, which I've tried to bring together in these posts:

Although I'm obviously not the only one - there's loads more threads out there, but I think I've managed to cover the majority is issues and requests there

I have the same problem, I've tried everything but nothing works.

Spotify works perfect on my old Iphone but not with the S2 that I'm using in daily basis.

Try to send message to Spotify = no response  Samsung = "not our problem", reinstall +

install + original fabrication = nothing works !!!
