Spotify is preventing my phone from waking

My Question or Issue

Multiple times a day, for about a half hour at a time, having music playing on spotify makes it extremely difficult to wake my phone from sleep. I have to repeatedly press the lock button and repeatedly double-tap-to-wake the screen for several seconds to get a response. During this time the only response I can get out of my phone is controlling the playback with the buttons on my Bluetooth headphones. Stopping the music with these controls does not stop the issue, but the issue only begins when spotify is playing.
