If battery saver mode is on, try turning it off. Also try excluding spotify from android's doze:

Open the Settings app on your phone (Pull down the notifications shade, and tap the gear in the upper right corner, or find โ€œSettingsโ€ in the App Drawer.)
2. Tap Battery.
3. Tap the menu button and choose โ€œBattery optimization.โ€
4. Tap the dropdown menu at the top of the screen and select โ€œAll apps.โ€
5. Scroll down to Spotify - tap it and select "Don't Optimize"

If you are running a third party battery saver or memory clener, add an exclusion for spotify.

Hey folks,

For those of you who are still experiencing this issue we'd recommend the following:

  • Some Android phones have Battery Optimization enabled by default. This can hinder the performance of apps such as Spotify. This is why we'd suggest disabling it. You can check how to do this for your specific brand of device here.
  • Head over to this Spotify Answer, to learn why your app might be pausing playback and check if any of the suggestions work for you.

Hope you find the info provided helpful. We're always a click away if you need more help or have questions ๐Ÿ™‚

Clean install fixes the problem for a few minutes.. until you realize this is happening to other songs. ๐Ÿ˜ž

It's definitely not the solution

And this is on all 3 devices? Can you confirm which version of the Spotify app you are using?

Version 1.9.0 for both Android devices and 1.0.6 for Windows desktop.

Now...I discovered the source of the problem. It's my phone - the Galaxy S6 Edge. No matter what device I play Spotify on, if the Edge shows on screen (3 devices are Spotify Connect-ed) the music being played, the music stops. How do I know this? When I power down the Edge, music plays uninterruptedly on the other two devices. Power it back on, and the Edge stops the music.

Weird ain't it?

Having the same issue in that my Galaxy S6 (not edge).  Spotify is stopping randomly in the middle of songs.   When I hit play to restart it starts at the begining of the song.   Won't even make it through one song.

mine does the same thing, stops playing music randomly. Today i had logged out and logged back in, and now its re downloading all of my songs again. Such a waste of time. Ever since the recent updates the music cuts out, scrolling through the playlist selection is choppy, and stops at the same spot every time i scroll down. I wish there was some way to go back to an older, not buggy version. Does anyone have a rooted phone with maybe a backup of an old version, or a link to an older version would be great.

That is odd. Try putting the Spotify app into Offline Mode on the Edge

I have a Samsung Galaxy s7, and every time I try to listen to the music, the music randomly stops,( with play button showing"). I don't know what to do, it works fine with other devices, but when Spotify is played on my phone, this issue persists.

Hi, I had the same problem for a few months and after trying everything above, I just solved what was causing Spotify to stop for me. Spotify would just stop, leaving the play button ready to be pressed again. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. The problem was the Google voice recognition function of Google (I think it was trying to respond to the lyrics from the music).

Here's what I did:

1. Open Google

2. At the bottom right hand corner, tap the 3 horizontal lines

3. Tap Settings

4. Tap Accounts & Privacy

5. Tap Google Activity Controls

6. Tap Voice & Audio Activity

7. Slide the tab across from "On" to "Paused".

I wonder if some people with iphones might also be having problems with Suri's voice recognition function, just a thought? Anyway, I hope this helps!

I have the same issue where it seems to pause itself and I have to go back into the app to press play to start it again. It seems to be random and usually happens within a few hours of it occurring so itโ€™s not as regular as per song etc.

Just bought a new S8 from new and reinstalled Spotify as I thought it might have been my old phone but the issue is still happening. I have noticed that when it does pause I lose the player notification on the โ€˜always on displayโ€™ on my phone but pulling down the notification bar does pull up the Spotify controls.

Iโ€™m going mad trying to find the solution to fix this

I have tried/done the below:

  • Cleared the cache
  • Cleared the cache, uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled from fresh
  • Disconnected Bluetooth devices
  • Turned off Bluetooth
  • Removed apps that might interfere such as my pebble app, android wear etc
  • Add Spotify to be exempt from power saving
  • Made its notifications priority
  • Tried over Wi-Fi and 4G
  • Saved a playlists for offline use
  • Changed phone and fresh installed Spotify
  • OS is fully update
  • Spotify is fully up to date

Thanks

Phil

Hi @Alan_flores88, welcome to the community ๐Ÿ™‚

Try a clean reinstall of Spotify to see if this fixes the problem:

Let me know if it works!

I have tried this method plenty of times, even clearing the cache, but nothing seems to work, and I am out of ideas by now. Also, whenever I try to skip songs, the music won't start until I click on the application, I have to keep doing this each time a shuffled song ends.

Mine does the same thing. Stops after every song until I open the app. The only way I was able to fix it on my galaxy S6 edge was to keep my phone on the charger even if I'm at full battery, that's the only way the music will keep playing so far.

How are you skipping tracks without using the app - bluetooth controls? There are a few settings which can cause playback to stop so might be worth checking the following:

  • Wifi/More/keep wifi on during sleep - set to always
  • Battery - Power saving modes off
  • Battery/App power saving/details - make sure Spotify is not listed. If it is, select and disable
