Spotify no longer working with in car bluetooth controls

My Question or Issue

I updated to Andriod 9.0 on Saturday, and have reinstalled and updated all of my apps on a clean install. Since installing the latest version of Spotify on android 9 (8.5.9.737), Spotify no longer works with my cars Bluetooth correctly.

I am no longer able to skip songs, and spotify keeps playing when receiving or making a call. On top of this, the lock screen regularly locks out making it impossible to change songs without unlocking my phone.

I have already cleared the data, uninstalled and re-installed 3 times as well as double checking and allowing all permissions. 

Any advice would be appreciated.
