Spotify playlist will not shuffle

After updating to the newest spotify update (the one with the now condensed three tabs) my playlists are no longer shuffling when i hit "shuffle play", they continue to play the same set of songs everytime from the top tenth of the playlist. I have already tried clearing all spotify data, reinstalling, and rebooting my phone.

I have been having the same problem since November 2017. I spent the better part of two weeks exchanging emails about this with Spotify support. They tried to help, but so far no one seems to have any idea what's causing this or how to fix it. It has made the Android app pretty much unusable for me. (Spotify shuffles just fine on my PC.)

I see that a number of Android users have reported the same problem. I also see that some of those threads have been changed by moderators to "Not an Issue" status even though it clearly IS an issue. Very frustrating.
